Following the closure of the slip road off the M66 motorway at Junction 1 (Ramsbottom) on 19th July by Highways England due to escaping water from a water main, the slip road has remained closed.
United Utilities have been progressing works on site. They have undertaken the repair to their water main and have had to excavate part of carriageway on the southbound lane. They have now brought it back up to a level ready to accept the top surface course yesterday.
United Utilities then swapped the traffic signals to the other lane and are currently excavating on the northbound lane. They will, likewise, bring this up to a level ready to accept the top surface course at which point they will seek to lay the top surface course in a single operation to both lanes, with appropriate traffic management.
It is anticipated that they should be complete by Friday but works may run into the beginning of next week if they encounter unforeseen circumstances.
