Bury Council have announced that Bridge Street in Ramsbottom is to close on Saturday 23 July for a period of around 4 to 5 weeks.
National Grid have indicated they need to renew old gas infrastructure (both mains and property supplies) which lies under Bridge Street.
In order to undertake these works safely, a full closure of the top section of Bridge Street will be required.
The works are to coincide with the summer school holidays when traffic flows are at their lowest point throughout the year.
Officers from Bury Council’s Engineering Services have met with National Grid representatives (and bus operators) to finalise the details.
The Council also intend to coordinate highway maintenance works with the works National Grid are undertaking so repairs can be effected to footpaths and carriageways under the same closure – hence minimising disruption to the public.
